Mathias Te Moananui

Mathias is the Creative Director at Buoy Salon. Specialising in colour and styling, his approach to hair is to enhance the natural beauty that exists in everyone. He specialises in a premium client experience, personalised consultation, and customised colour selection and placement to work with any and all his clients needs. 

Giving back is an important part of Mathias’ work and is the Training Director for Buoy Salon. Often, in salon, you will see our other stylists come and ask him for advice. He is also a L’Óreal Pro Artist for Australia and New Zealand, regularly travelling both countries showcasing his work and educating other hair stylists at every level (apprentices, stylists and business owners alike). 

Outside of the salon, Mathias has travelled the world working on  celebrities, fashion weeks, editorial shoots, brand campaigns, stage shows, hair shows, films and television. He has also been a regular finalist in hair competitions across New Zealand and Australia, as well as winning LÓreal New Zealand Hairdresser of the year in 2016 and 2021.
